The Summer 2012 class schedule is up, so please check it out and sign up to volunteer (first-come, first-served basis). Looking for all types of volunteers. Cooking Matters classes are expanding to Larimer and Weld Counties!
Centennial Area Health Education Center (CAHEC) is pleased to announce its partnership with Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters™ to expand services and classes in northern Colorado. Established in 1993, Cooking Matters is a nationally-recognized program that integrates interactive cooking classes and nutrition education to teach low-income families how to prepare healthy meals on a budget. The program empowers families at risk of hunger with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make healthy and affordable meals and is often based out of community agencies and schools.
Over six weekly, 2-hour classes, volunteer culinary and nutrition experts lead the classes using curricula that are tailored for specific audiences of adults, kids, families, teens, and childcare professionals, including lessons and activities on basic culinary skills, food safety, nutrition-label reading, grocery store shopping, and nutrition education. At the end of each class, participants are given the recipe and groceries to re-create the meal at home. CAHEC is a Satellite Partner for Cooking Matters Colorado, based in Denver, focusing expansion efforts in Larimer and Weld Counties.
